After the weekend is over our house is usually looking pretty dirty and in need of some cleaning and we also usually have some pretty big piles of laundry to do. We usually are pretty busy (or "busy" relaxing and just having fun) on the weekend and so that is why this happens.
My method for dealing with that is to have Monday be my major cleaning and laundry day. It is the day I do my mopping, really clean up the kitchen and main bathroom, vacuum, dust, you name it.
One of the joys of homeschooling is being able to plan your own schedule and have your kids with you all of the time. So though we do schoolwork basically every weekday we have come up a system on Mondays that really works for me. Usually we start school work at 9 am but on Mondays we often don't until 10 am and we use that extra time to really work hard to get a lot of cleaning out of the way. When we are all busy together it ends up being pretty fun.
This past Monday I took some pictures of my helpers and I thought I would post them. In the one above Megan was busily working on washing the table. Megan is nearly 3, other jobs she does are:
- Wash trash cans (using a spray bottle and a rag and usually I have to do some finishing touches!)
- Fold napkins, wash clothes, rags. (She is getting very efficient and good at this!)
- Help mop.
- Rinse dishes.
Above are Mara and Aaron sorting laundry. Mara is 9 and Aaron is 5.
A few other things that Mara does are:
- Empty dishwasher
- Sweep
- Dust
- Clean the shower and tub
- Fold clothes and put them away
- general pick up
A few of the other things that Aaron does are:
- Wash off chairs and move them to prepare for mopping.
- Wash off the fronts of appliances.
- Wash walls.
- Dust
- General pick up.
- Put away clothes.
Jonathan is in charge of taking care of the trash. He takes it all out of the trash cans and puts in new bags and then he hauls it all out to the end of the lane. Jonathan is 7. Other things Jonathan does are:
- Sweep
- empty dishwasher
- cleans sink and toilet in the kids bathroom
- dust
- general pick up
- fold and put away clothes
- wash walls.
Adjusting our schedule so that we can get a lot of cleaning out of the way and also having kids help truly Works for Me!
