New Mission Announcement!!

I've decided what my new baking/cooking mission will be. Drumroll please......

Homemade Drumsticks!! You know, the ice cream cone treat with the chocolate lined cone, chocolate covered top..... Yum!

I recently had a Drumstick and I told Jon, "Man, these are so good! Too bad they're so expensive." ($5.50 per 8 cones) Then the usual lightbulb went off in my head.... I could make these!

So, stay tuned as I come up with a plan to make a homemade Drumstick worthy of ..... of.... well, anyone who likes Drumsticks!! :)

Action Packed Saturday

This past weekend was packed full of fun things to do and people to visit with. This was our Saturday....

Jon and I made a big breakfast for Jon's parents, sister, and my dad who were in from out of town for Charlotte's birthday. I was in charge of pancakes and sausage... Jon made the eggs.

Then we had Charlotte's birthday party. Cake, ice cream, and presents all before 10am. What a way to start the day!

Jon's mom and sister helped Charlotte and Evan learn to play one of her new games.

My dad made me a cold frame for my birthday (at the end of this month)! Thanks Dad! I can't wait to use it. It has a hinge inside that allows it to stay open by itself without having to prop it up. I'll really be able to extend the garden with this and get an early start come spring!

Then we took Charlotte to her gymnastics class. I think she liked having such a big audience.

Later that afternoon we went to see Jon's Marching Band compete.

The kids did really well in the stands for the almost 3 hours we were there.

As the band was finishing their show, Jon grabbed Evan and took him along to hang out with the band.

The band did a great job and got second place overall in their class. Go Bobcats.

Sunday morning was a different story... Evan woke up with a 103* fever. This is where he stayed for most of the day. He's back to running, jumping, and playing now though :)

Tomorrow I'll tell you where I got to go on Sunday afternoon! I'll give you a hint... it involves "Baaaaaaaa"

For a boy ...... Its the same cowboy-teddy panel but with a different border. 

..... and for a girl, with the same border as previously. 

Its all ready now ;-)

Stars in Color!

Made my first STARZ! Its lovely.

The star blocks measures about 10" x 11" and there are 9 blocks altogether. Sashing is a 3" white fabric and finished it off with a 4" red/orange/yellow striped fabric.

A cream with small white flowers for its backing and a bright yellow binding all around.

Turned out lovely! A bit squarish - but just lovely ;-)

A Mighty Wind

Last week a sudden and strong storm blew through with up to 50 mph winds and made an impression on the garden. I'm very glad we didn't get the hail that the warnings said we could get.



The lettuce was covered in dirt and laying over. Luckily it's perked up since.


My broccoli plants were laying on their sides and by the next day hadn't started to right themselves.

I used pickets from vinyl fence panels I was given by a friend recently. I'm going to use the full fence panels to fence in the back garden next season but these pickets that were loose were perfect for staking the broccoli. I used a piece of twine to loosely tie them to each stake.

I still haven't figured out why my broccoli stems are so narrow at the bottom... making them flop over more easily. My spring broccoli stems were straight and thick. I watered a lot more when these plants were seedlings verses the spring plants... not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I'm going to make sure to go out to harvest a few greenbeans today. I think I may get enough for a dinner before the plants give up for the season.
