Asalam Alaikum
I am a bad blogger, i have said it before and now i say it again...bad bad bad.
But in other news, I have left the relative comfort of my parents house in Boston, for the very strange and slightly uncomfortable Abu Dhabi, UAE. I am not happy with many things here. If I had to make a list, my top 3 would be- the heat, the fact that there is no real quality yarn(I wont even dream of hopping for a LYS), and the fact that about 2 months after i got here, My dear, dear companion and link to the other knitters out there-Ravelry-was BLOCKED. I want to cry every time i say it. It is a very unfair and very stupid thing done by some very stupid people.
"We apologize the site you are attempting to visit has been blocked due to its content being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates."
MY FOOT!!!
What could possibly be so offensive about a bunch of knitters? We are by far one of the least offensive groups of people I have ever seen.
At least twice a day I want to go down to Etisalat and do some protest knitting in their lobby. But then I think, if I do that the government here will probably block anything related to knitting and then where will i be?
Also on my list of things to hate- MEN STARE. In the US people stare for a second because of the abaya and scarf, then they look away quickly like they are afraid or something. But here, in the Muslim country where they are supposed to "down cast their eyes and be modest" they stare at me in what i can only call a slimy way, it makes me very uncomfortable.
Of the nice things,(besides my Husbands family-they are all super nice) are the textile stores, and tailoring material stores. There are whole sections of town filled with them. This is a very good time to do more quilting, and i dont think i will ever buy ready made clothes again. Also very good is the fruit market, not that i get out of the car to select the fruit very often(see above-MEN STARE) but i have always loved the idea of going to pick out fresh fruit from a market according to what is in season. Apparently right now is Mango season. You know in the US i never really liked mangoes, now i know why, they had no taste, but here the mangoes are so tasty.
Inshallah, I will have some pics up soon, i have complete a couple of things and without ravelry, im kinda at a loss.

Home At Last! (sort of)
So we made it to Boston to my folks house, boy was it a rough ride over from Detroit! Snow, snow, snow! At some points, there was so much snow that we could barely see the road. It was really bad, at another point we were driving through this nearly impenetrable snow, and we passed an 18 wheeler, I look over and what is this guy doing?..guess...i dare ya...watching a dvd on his laptop while driving...this is part of what causes accidents. I hate stupid.
Mom has promised to take me to her LYS, maybe tomorrow. She said there is also a knitting group that meets on mondays that we can go to,so that should be fun.
In other knitting news, I have done a little work on the DHs V neck vest, but not that much. and I completed an second tiny keychain sweater in green for my DM. She liked the Fake Isle hat and the Fetching that I made for her. I know that they will be appreciated, and worn because she is a knitter/crocheter and she understands the time and effort involved in their creation. My DM has also filled out my needle collection, as she is trying to get rid of doubles in hers, and has given me a little stash of my very own! It is really great to have somebody who understands the my knitting, some one to talk to about my progress whose eyes won't cross.
Until Next post

Long time, no post
Wow, am I a bad blogger, I should have known this would happen given my lack of ability to keep an offline journal...oh well I just have to try harder i guess.
I have been reading a lot of knit blogs, (I am so addicted) and stumbled onto this---
Strange but fun, in other news I have completed the "first official socks"...they are not really socks, more like house slippers made in the way of socks, just to test the waters of sock knitting, and ya know what, the water is fine come on in! I know I have a long way to go til I can whip up a half-way decent pair but so far, so fun.
I also finished the back of my dh's vest... dratted thing...cheap yarn...you really should be careful what you say..."of course I'll knit you a vest dear and you can even pick the yarn"
Oh, and I also knitted a hat for my aunt, from knitty- a tam. It was so fun to work with the two colors and see the pattern appear that I finished very quickly. Now all thats left is to mail it to her...because we have moved! Or at least started the process of moving, we left nice sunny florida to visit my DH's cousin(Michigan of all places). then we are off to Boston to see my folks, then the big one, we hop on a plane and take a very long flight to Abu Dhabi where we will most likely stay on a semi permenant basis, to live with my DH's family.
To return to the subject of socks for a moment, I have discovered that there is a yarn store that is exactly 1.7 miles from where we are staying right now in Michigan and the DH has promised to take me there. I have never been to a yarn store, as the only ones near to us before the move were a good distance away. I am so excited!! I want to buy some nice sock yarn and make some matching socks for the DH and my adorable new son.
Well, that was a long post, and if I can stick to my resolution to be a better blogger then a new post will follw shortly and may also include pictures.
until next post,
Asalam Alaikum
