This week I got in the mail a packet from Shopper's Voice in response to a survey that I had filled out. They sent the coupons they had promised as well as the results of the survey. One of the results surprised and saddened me. They asked what sort of things we enjoyed reading and for Bible or Devotional the result was only 34 %. I believe these surveys go to a pretty broad spectrum of people and of the ones surveyed only a 3rd like to spend time in the Bible.
This verse reminds me of a reason why we need to spend time studying God's word:
"But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence."
2 Peter 3:15
When we live a life of hope and joy people are going to wonder why. We need to be able to explain that to them, explain what all God has done for us and the salvation from Sin's punishment that He has promised us. To be able to explain it very well we need to understand it ourselves and to do that we need to spend time in God's word.
Also if we are going to have a relationship with God we need to read the Bible. That is how He speaks to us and how can we have a relationship with somebody we don't even listen to?
May you have fun reading about who God is and what He has done!
